Pricing
- Local outgoing payments are free over Faster Payments and in PHP and NGN, and cost between 1 and 4 in euro, pounds or dollars on the other currencies, with AED, THB, HKD and PKR the most expensive at 4.
- Paying out to a card is priced by destination: 0.70% in the UK with a minimum of 1, 1.50% in the EU with a minimum of 1, and 0.50 plus 3.00% for the rest of the world. USD over ACH is tiered and UK-only, starting at 1% with a $1 minimum up to $100 and falling to 0.25%, 0.20% and 0.18%.
- Fees are region-tiered: free for UK & Europe; Rest of World business accounts pay a 100 GBP opening fee, 50 GBP/month, and a 4.99 GBP dormancy fee.
Limits
- There is no limit on how many outgoing payments you make in a day or a month, and no specific limit on incoming ones.
- What is capped is the single payment, and it changes a lot by currency: euro, sterling and dollar start at 0.50 with no maximum, while some currencies have a low ceiling, MXN 30 to 200 and BRL 8 to 55, and others a very high one, COP up to 400,000,000 and IDR up to 100,000,000.
- Contactless has two different ceilings per purchase: €5,000, £4,500 or $5,500 on a virtual card, and only €500, £400 or $500 on a physical one.
- Corporate accounts are exempt from the maximums that apply to AED and COP on personal ones.
Payments & transfers
- The euro local account receives payments over SEPA, from within Europe.
- The sterling local account receives payments over Faster Payments, from within the UK.
Crypto
- Business onlyBusiness crypto eligibility is gated by the company's incorporation country (a whitelist applies) and by its industry (a restricted list applies).
- Business only · living in JP, NL, RS, GB, USA company is ineligible for crypto services if any of its UBOs resides in Japan, the Netherlands, Serbia, the United Kingdom, or the United States.
- Crypto-to-fiat conversion (Synterra Connect) is subject to residency requirements and isn't provided to residents of a long list of countries, including the UK, the US, and most of the EU; eligibility for individuals is assessed separately from businesses.
- Crypto features (Synterra Connect, provided by Synterra Innovations Ltd, Canada) are offered but not available in the EU or UK.
Business activity
- Business onlyAltery's acceptable-use policy prohibits, on top of any illegal or unauthorised activity, several specific business types: companies with bearer shares, shell companies or nominee structures, unregulated financial investment brokers, unregulated money service businesses (MSBs), affiliates of darknet or illegal marketplaces, illegal drug manufacturing or sale, and the sale of counterfeit goods.
Opening an account
- Service is provided by two entities: Altery Ltd in the UK (FCA FRN 901037) and Altery EU Ltd, licensed by the Central Bank of Cyprus; the EU entity is currently early-access with a limited number of users.
- The business account is for registered companies only - sole traders can't open one and use a personal account instead.
Licence & regulation
- Client funds are safeguarded per FCA requirements but are not covered by the FSCS deposit guarantee scheme.
