In the fine print
Conditions from MeDirect's own terms, pricing pages and acceptable-use policy that don't fit in a table. Read in full and checked by hand.
Pricing
- Business onlyMeDirect publishes no acceptable use policy and no list of prohibited industries. Its corporate tariff instead prices gaming entities, gaming-related businesses, payment processors and money remitters in account opening bands of their own, rather than refusing them.
- The current account itself pays no interest: the corporate terms state that balances on the current account do not earn credit interest, and the retail rate sheet shows 0.00% on the current account in every currency. Interest is paid on separate accounts at the same bank, from instant-access savings at 2.00% p.a. in EUR to fixed term deposits between 0.05% and 3.00%.
Limits
- Corporate online banking applies a daily outgoing transfer limit of EUR 100,000, which the bank may raise at its discretion on request.
- The card limits that apply to a corporate account are the ones in the corporate terms and conditions, not the limits published on the retail pages, and the bank can vary them.
- Card limits are bank defaults that can only be lowered, never raised, from the mobile app or internet banking.
- Contactless payments without a PIN are capped at EUR 50 per transaction, and a PIN is requested once successive contactless transactions reach EUR 100.
- Transfers to external accounts and to third-party MeDirect accounts are subject to daily limits that the customer can view and change in the payment settings. The amounts are not published.
Payments & transfers
- MeDirect publishes no list of countries it will not send payments to or receive them from, and states the opposite: SWIFT payments can be sent to and received from banks worldwide. The corporate tariff prices payments to non-EEA countries explicitly.
- The only interfaces MeDirect exposes are the PSD2 ones (account aggregation, payment initiation and confirmation of available funds), available through a developer portal to third parties licensed by a competent authority. There is no product API for the account holder.
Cards
- The one country list the bank does publish concerns card usage under sanctions (Afghanistan, Belarus, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Myanmar, Russia, Syria, Venezuela). It says where the card cannot transact, not where the bank refuses a transfer.
Opening an account
- Business onlyThere is no self-service application for a business account: corporate onboarding runs through a questionnaire emailed to the bank.
Countries & residency
- The bank is online only, with no branches abroad. It also runs separate Belgian and Dutch sites, medirect.be and medirect.nl; everything described here is the Malta entity.
Licence & regulation
- Deposits are covered up to EUR 100,000 per depositor by the MFSA Depositor Compensation Scheme. MeDirect is a licensed credit institution, not an electronic money institution: EMIs safeguard client funds but carry no deposit guarantee.
Will MeDirect actually accept you?
Acceptance depends on where your company is registered, where its owners live, where your money flows - and your sector. The wizard checks MeDirect's published rules on all of them, and shows you the alternatives too.
